Details

The manufacturer has issued the following safety notice:

Following Whirlpool’s acquisition of the Hotpoint/Indesit brands, Indesit Company has closely reviewed the safety of its product portfolio.

As part of this review we have identified a potential concern with two types of tumble dryers manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015. In some rare cases, excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and present a risk of fire. The affected brands are:

Hotpoint
Indesit
Creda
Swan
Proline

We are activating an extensive consumer outreach and service action plan in order to provide our consumers with products that are updated to higher safety and quality standards. Consumers with affected products, that have not been modified or replaced, can choose between a free of charge replacement, a free of charge engineer appointment to modify the dryer, an upgraded higher specification replacement for a small charge or an age based refund.

If your tumble dryer is affected by this issue then you should unplug it and do not use it until the modification has taken place

What to do

25.04.18 Whirlpool AKM 274/IX Gas Hobs

Details

The manufacturer has issued the following recall notice.

Whirlpool has launched a product safety campaign to rectify a small number of gas hob appliances sold in the UK.

This affects Whirlpool branded stainless steel, built-in gas hobs with the model number AKM 274/IX. The affected appliances were manufactured between September 2014 and March 2016.

The issue concerns the operation of the gas burner in the front left corner of the appliance.

As a precautionary measure, consumers who own these products are advised not to use the burner in the front left corner until it has been modified by a Whirlpool engineer. All other burners are unaffected and may continue to be used as normal in the meantime.

Due to a technical issue in manufacturing, these appliances were produced with the wrong type of gas injector in the front left corner. The front left burner may emit levels of carbon monoxide above EU standards which could, in very rare usage conditions, present a low risk of adverse health effects through inhalation. There have been no reported incidents involving these products. Investigations have confirmed that the issue does not present a risk of fire or explosion.

What to do

To resolve the issue, a home visit by a Whirlpool service engineer is required. All consumers who own this appliance should visit https://www.whirlpoolservice.co.uk/safety-notice or contact Whirlpool’s customer care team on 0800 316 3885 to check if the model number (and serial number) of their appliance is involved in this product safety campaign. Consumers can select a convenient time for an engineer to visit their home free-of-charge.

20.02.18 KitchenAid 1.7 Litre Electric Kettles

Details

The manufacturer has issued the following recall notice:

Whirlpool announces a voluntary safety campaign for KitchenAid 1.7 Litre Electric Kettles.

Brussels/Belgium, 20th February 2018 – Whirlpool Corporation and its brand “KitchenAid” today announce the launch of a voluntary safety campaign involving the Model Type 5KEK1722 KitchenAid electric kettle.

The reason for this voluntary safety campaign is that Whirlpool believes the handle of the KitchenAid kettle can, in rare circumstances, separate from the upper attachment points to the kettle’s body and become unstable.

Whirlpool has already implemented modifications at the point of manufacture to ensure that kettles now being delivered from our warehouses are not affected.

The products involved are 5KEK1722 models within the specified serial number range as shown here:

Note: the model number and serial number are located within the label on the base of the kettle.

What to do

Whirlpool would ask any consumer who has one of the models, manufactured within the affected production range, to stop using the kettle and contact our Consumer Care Centre at toll free number 00800 552 27777 or 00800 381 04026 from 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Consumers can also visit www.repair.whirlpool.com to determine if their electric kettle is affected.

Whirlpool will replace all affected kettles free of charge to the consumer.

InSinkErator is undertaking a voluntary corrective action plan that affects some installations of certain models of disposers. InSinkErator has determined that improper installation of the disposer or damage to the air switch can result in a potential fire hazard.
